Peripherals connected to Single Board Computers (SBCs) require separate power, sometimes in large amounts not typically available on the SBC. Additionally, some high power wireless radios require an additional power source, such as 5V for the RF power amplifier.
Gateworks designed the GW16120 Mini-PCIe Power and USB Expansion Card to meet these power needs while eliminating the need for an additional separate external power supply. Given the robust power supply on the Gateworks SBCs, using the power from the Mini-PCIe slot can provide many watts of power dependent on the SBC. Both 3.3V and 5V rails are provided along with an additional bonus USB port. The GW16120 also allows for stacking of a Mini-PCIe wireless radio or other card on a riser connector for applications that cannot give up a full Mini-PCIe slot.
The GW16120 Provides :
Up to 8.0W @ 3.3V (shared – see datasheet)
Up to 6.5W @ 5.0V (shared – see datasheet)
Additional USB 2.0 connector (for Mini-PCIe slots with USB signalling)
Riser Mini-PCIe slot to be used by wireless radio, etc
Power and USB Cables available
No software required

Wireless access is everywhere and has become an essential convenience that customers expect businesses to provide. Wireless connections can become unreliable and suffer in high density use areas like trains, buses, cafes and stadiums. Users can face slow bandwidth, dropped connections and interruption when streaming video.
To improve wireless reliability, quality, and performance in high density areas, AOIFES has created a software solution called “Cognitive Hotspot Technology (CHT)” that runs on Gateworks Single Board Computers. CHT software is intelligent and designed to efficiently handle a large number of concurrent connections. Wireless access points with CHT software installed throughout a train or building can communicate with each other in real time allowing them to make intelligent decisions based on the current load and demand by the users. CHT increases throughput performance by over 400% thereby increasing the capacity of both number of simultaneous clients and the bandwidth availability for high QoS applications such as video streaming.
CHT on Gateworks SBCs provides the following advantages:
Provides Advanced Load Balancing
Increases network capacity and reliability
Increases network speed and performance
Reduces RF emissions, interference, and electricity consumption
Reduces the number of needed Wireless Access Points

Digital Signage has exploded over the last few years and is now utilized in businesses ranging from fast food restaurants for menu boards to factories for showing real time productivity analytics. The uses for digital signage is unlimited and the cost has come down to a price point that even small businesses can afford.
Gateworks has created a simple software signage solution for use on the Ventana Family of Single Board Computers. Connect the SBC to an HDMI or LCD display and point to the desired URL.
Gateworks Digital Signage Features:
Based on Android Lollipop, Optimized for 256MB Flash
Displays any local or remote URL in a full screen browser (Kiosk Mode)
Supports Hardware Acceleration for smooth playback of web content
Gateworks offers a LVDS connector on the Ventana Family of Single Board Computers to allow the connection of a LCD touchscreen display. LCD Displays are a great fit for control panel applications as well as Digital Signage. The displays work with Android, OpenEmbedded Yocto, Ubuntu and more.
The LVDS connector has all the necessary pins for the display signaling as well as I2C for touchscreen control.
Gateworks offers a 7-inch LCD Display with a PCAP Touchscreen. This display is great to get started in development as well as for production projects.
All of the cables, adapters and LCD can be found right on the Gateworks Online Shop so getting up and running is very seamless.
